I think every young grommet surfer has drawn a wave on the inside cover of his or her school books. I know I have. I probably carved a few waves into the top of many desks too. It’s that daydreaming that makes it possible to cope with Algebra, History and Biology. Imagining a perfect wave and being pitted in the green room and transferring that idea into a 2d image. There’s definitely something about surf and art and how they seem to work together. Surfing is an art form, nobody will argue that.
One of my favorite artists out there keeping the daydream alive in the surfing realm is Jay Alders. His style is one of a kind and displays a form of surreal imagination. His art has been showcased in Surfer Magazine, FuelTV, Surfline.com, Line Up Magazine, FHM Magazine, Penthouse Magazine, Alma Surf Magazine and many web sites. Line Up Magazine recently published a seven page spread covering Jay’s trip to Brazil with ALO, Donavon Frankereiter, Matt Costa, G Love, Sean Davey, Sunny Aberton and others for the Alma Surf Festival. Check out the Art of Surfing Issue of Longboard Magazine featuring Jay’s Surf Art. On Stands Aug-Sept 2008.
