Schooly BiteWednesday, October 29th, 2008 by MC |
Dean Vervoort with a 42 pounder. Definately not a schooly.
Now that the surf has subsided, my focus has changed to another favorite aquatic activity, Striped Bass fishing. I have been getting reports from all over that the bite is hot and tales of blitzes up and down the “Striper Coast” have my interest peaked. My gear has been in my truck for a couple of weeks now, and I’ve looked for fish a few times, but haven’t put the time in. Until this morning.
I got a call last night from Sharpie Dean Vervoort. He had just caught and released 20 bass and left them biting. We spoke briefly and decided to meet early am and fish for an hour before work.
I got to the beach and found Dean. His red LED head lamp helped me find him in the pitch black of early morning. By the time I got to where Dean was fishing, he’d already caught and released 2 on the fly. We fished together for an hour. Dean had a bunch on his fly rod and I caught and released 9. Most of mine were caught on a red gill teaser, but I had a few on the bomber too. Almost all were caught right in the wash.
With the weather pattern set up for more offshore winds, the bite should be hot for the rest of the week. Get your gear together, bundle up and go catch a Striper.
