Sorry for the interruption…

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 by MC

It’s been a challenging couple of weeks at Squidforce Industries.

“IT” issues and unruly web hosts have had us scrambling and a little pissed. Thanksgiving, a couple of epic swells, the annual stripped bass migration have only added to the melee.

All that is behind us now (hopefully the bass and waves keep coming:)

We’ve got a new server courtesy of Johnee “Double Wide” Hanusek, and are working on some bitchin new content.

While we get our act together, please enjoy this offering of super slow motion striped bass and peanut bunker from the ultrasquidly Tom Lynch.

Cheers,

That’s some mighty fancy angling mister.

This just in from Almighty Ink. (The names of the spots have been changed to protect the locals)

Mike Kyrlo 38

And the e-mail read:

“Hey Mike, this is one of my spearfishing buddies (and tattoo clients), Mike Kyrlo….hes definitely devoted his life to the sea…he surfs, freedives/spearfishes, and fishes rod and reel…he gave me my 1st box of swimmers and plugs for fishing (before my spearfishing fascination)…

He got the big one on Monday….gave me this crazy story …he was ridin around on his bike lookin for bait workin, from (spot X) to (spot XXX) when he got a call the big bass were hittin at (secret spot)…he floored it on his bike over there, only to see all the fisherman walkin off the beach sayin that he had missed it…he figured that the bass had to be headin north up to (shangrila), so off he went …upon arriving, all the jetties had about 6 fisherman castin off, but 1 jetty was empty…he climbed out on it and started castin, lookin like there wasn’t anything happening, when he saw bait about 150 yards off the tip of his jetty…”with all his might..”, (his words!), he casted as far as he could w/a snag, and just hit the edge of the bait….he felt the reel pullin, so he new he had hit the bunker…then I guess the reel started peelin and 15 minutes later after an incredible fight, two Mexican dudes had to help him carry it off the jetty and up the beach..

awesome story….

i think I’m gonna pick up some new bands before Sunday…I don’t wanna lose the big one, either.”

“38.1 pounds, 46 inches, and one hell of a fight!”

Cheers to you Mike. Nice catch, especially from a rock pile.

Sharpen those hooks and tighten up those crimps Squids cause the cows are here, and you may not get a second chance at the big one.

Nice fish @#$!%^&**!

IBSP with Mick and Nick

Saturday, May 9th, 2009 by MC

This Just in from the boys at Brownie Troop. Massive yellow eyes at IBSP from Wednesday past.

According to Mickey, the boys weren’t expecting a great bite so they set up every rod they had and spiked em in the sand. Shortly after, all hell broke loose. Gator blues were tangling and biting stuff off keeping the crew busy retying and re-baiting. Eventually, they had to thin their offering and the bite remained shit hot into the evening with massive blues and a few bass attacking bunker chunks and clams until a lightning storm chased them off the beach. All fish were tagged and released.

Now, it’s officially ON!

Go get em Squids and be sure to send your picks and stories in.

it’s so on!

delaney-from-dos-wreckas

well…sort of on.

Needing a temporary reprieve from life above the surface, we made time to jump in the water at an inshore wreck earlier this week. Though the water was a nippy 50ish degrees and the viz was horrible, we had an absolutely fine time.

Nearing hypothermia, Delaney popped a fat 21 inch Tautog.  It was the only fish we saw on the wreck, but with 3 feet of vizability, it could have been one unlucky fish separated from many others hiding just out of sight. In my opinion, it’s a little cold for blackfish inshore.

It was great to be back in the water and diving, excited for the return of the Stripers and Tog, warmer water, and better viz to come.

Dr. Delaney is looking a lot like Bill Murray in his groundbreaking performance as Steve Zissou in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. He’d be perfect in the prequel as a young “Stevsie” cutting his chops as an unpaid intern.  Get him a speedo and a glock!

Gannet Man

Sunday, March 15th, 2009 by MC

This video came in from one of my favorite brothers-in-law…”Gallactic” Glen Wenrich.

I am not sure what is going on here, and how they got hold of a live Marlin.  Maybe a catch and release senario, maybe Gannet Man is really all that…I am definitely skeptical.

Any and all comments would be appreciated, as I’d like to wrastle a Marlin someday, but I’m pretty sure it’s virtually impossible.

Ryan McInnis on the Today Show

Thursday, March 12th, 2009 by MC

picture-3

Our friend Ryan who is regularly featured here in the form of his pod cast INSEAtv will be a guest on The Today show and the Early Show Tomorrow March 13, 2009.
According to the NY Post article, Ryan and crew were underwater hunting off the coast of Louisianna last June when a 12′ tiger shark singled Ryan out. (Maybe the shark could tell the difference between his camera and the spear guns everyone else was holding).
Ryann’s buddy and dive partner Craig Clasen had his back, and tried to deter the shark, the shark was persistent, and Craig was left with no option but to shoot the shark. Two hours, seven spears and a long knife blade later, the shark was dead. Clasen later said that he was deeply saddened by killing the shark but felt morally obligated to kill it after the first shot hit the fish in the gills.
Please read the article in the NY Post, and tune into the Early Show, and the Today Show tomorow to see the first hand account.
