Sorry for the interruption…

It’s been a challenging couple of weeks at Squidforce Industries.

“IT” issues and unruly web hosts have had us scrambling and a little pissed. Thanksgiving, a couple of epic swells, the annual stripped bass migration have only added to the melee.

All that is behind us now (hopefully the bass and waves keep coming:)

We’ve got a new server courtesy of Johnee “Double Wide” Hanusek, and are working on some bitchin new content.

While we get our act together, please enjoy this offering of super slow motion striped bass and peanut bunker from the ultrasquidly Tom Lynch.

Cheers,

From the Church of the Ramones comes a cool cover of the Chambers Brother’s Classic “Time Has Come Today”. Shout out to “Diamond” Dan Murray who, as i type, just might be listening to the original version on his iPod.

Bonus, shortened, for TV, version of the original (though pale in comparison to the 11:07 minute epic on their self titled album, it’s a nice tease):

Highlights from last years final where Adrian “Ace” Buchan beat Kelly temporarily stalling Slater’s title campaign.

Stop number 7 on the ASP is on in stellar beachbreak conditions at LES BOURDAINES, Seignosse, France.

Check out the Quicksilver site for more info and the live feed. I can’t help but feel an affinity for the events in the Atlantic.

7:30pm - Performance by Beau Young
8:30pm - Screening of SEARCHING FOR MICHAEL PETERSON
Bonfire on First Avenue Beach to follow

On Friday October 2nd Searching for Michael Peterson will screen at the historic Carousel Building in Asbury Park. Adding a special touch to the event, Australian singer/songwriter Beau Young (2x world champion surfer) who will perform before the screening. A bonfire on the beach will follow the event.

Beau retired from professional surfing in 2003 to focus on a fulltime career in music. He has gone on to record 2 albums and performed at many of Australia’s most respected music festivals and toured through Japan & Europe. Beau has an obvious affinity with the film and story of Michael Peterson, being the son of one of the worlds most recognised and famous surfers (and MP’s predecessor), Nat Young. This will be Beau’s first official U.S. tour.

SEARCHING FOR MICHAEL PETERSON has already achieved success and stellar reviews, selling out 25 shows in Australia, screening at the Greenroom festival in Japan, the Surfilm Festibal in Spain and sold out shows throughout the UK, including London, Brighton, Cornwall and Wales. It has been invited to screen at the Australian Centre of the Moving Image as part of the Australian Perspectives program.

Brought a tear to my eye.

A must-see

At last! A surf movie that gets up close and personal.

About Michael Peterson
Michael Peterson ruled the surf scene throughout the early to mid-1970s with his savage, groundbreaking surfing. An undiagnosed schizophrenic, Michael couldn’t handle the fame his surfing powers attracted, and he retreated into a world of hard drugs, fast cars and shadows. He eventually hit rock bottom after a car chase, which took 35 police cars to stop him.
For five glorious years “MP” led Australia’s charge into the shortboard era and won virtually every event he contested, including three Bells Beach Pros back to back. His brilliant surfing provided the centrepiece for Albert Falzon’s Morning of the Earth in 1972, and MP never looked back. His final tour victory, at the inaugural Stubbies Pro at Burleigh Heads in 1977, is regarded as the high point of the early professional era.
Thirty years on, MP is still vitally interested in the sport and culture of surfing and is a fixture at most Queensland events, enjoying the action with his mother, Joan. He is rightly regarded as an iconic figure in Australian surfing, and Hoff’s film, while it pulls no punches, is an intensely moving tribute to the man.

‘The story of Michael Peterson makes Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas look like Alice In Wonderland. ′ — Sean Doherty

Surfer Magazine has nominated Michael as the #16 all-time greatest surfer in the world.
