NJ Approves Windfarm Off the Coast of Atlantic City

When you think of energy in New Jersey, most people get an image of the Linden cogeneration plant, smellin’ distance away from Newark Airport. While it is unlikely that the planned NJ Windfarm will allow us to shut down Linden, or New Jersey’s two nuclear power plants, it is a step in the right direction.

We at Squidforce support the plan. You might be thinking “Hey Mr. Squidforce guy, how could someone be against renewable power? Why do you even have to say that you support it? Its like hatin’ on a puppy or wanting your mom to find your porn stash. It just doesn’t make sense.”

Well, gentle reader, if you were reading the news instead of that unconfiscated issue of Penthouse from 1986, you would know that even an unabashed liberal like Ted Kennedy came out against a Nantucket windfarm that could be seen from the fabled Kennedy Hyannisport compound. Apparently rich people get the NIMBY bug just like poor people, except that rich people often have access to US Senators that can stop a plan in their backyard.

Since the backyard in this case is the NJ coast off of the hellhole known as Atlantic City, I’m sure no one really cares about how the things look. Anyone who goes to AC never goes outside, anyway. Even if they do, their eyes aren’t going to be able to adjust to real God given sunlight in time to see spinning windmills 20 miles out, as they make their 450 Megawatts of sweet, sweet hydrocarbon free power.

Lets hear what all of you have to say about the plan. For or against?

Before you comment, you might want to read the shill of a web site for the project itself, or the reasonably factual PSE&G press release.

Hackensack Riverkeeper Annual Awards Dinner

Polluted water makes the Squid Force sad. So, when we see group like the Waterkeeper Alliance protecting our water resources from polluters, it is inspiring. It makes us want to put on our ninja gear, grab our spearguns and stealthily find that guy that dumps 55 gallon drums of dioxin into watersheds.

But saving rivers such as the Hackensack is not dramatic and usually does not involve sneaking around in the dark with sharp objects. It’s hard work by good people, such as those in the picture who picked up that pile of garbage from the river bank, piece by piece.

To honor these good people and others, the Hackensack Riverkeeper is putting on their Annual Awards Dinner and Sustainable Seafood Fest. On October 16th, 2008, $150 will get you delectable treats from Whole Foods, including seafood from an unstressed fishery. Yum city.

Visit http://www.hackensackriverkeeper.org/ for more information, and how to get involved.
