it’s so on!

delaney-from-dos-wreckas

well…sort of on.

Needing a temporary reprieve from life above the surface, we made time to jump in the water at an inshore wreck earlier this week. Though the water was a nippy 50ish degrees and the viz was horrible, we had an absolutely fine time.

Nearing hypothermia, Delaney popped a fat 21 inch Tautog.  It was the only fish we saw on the wreck, but with 3 feet of vizability, it could have been one unlucky fish separated from many others hiding just out of sight. In my opinion, it’s a little cold for blackfish inshore.

It was great to be back in the water and diving, excited for the return of the Stripers and Tog, warmer water, and better viz to come.

Dr. Delaney is looking a lot like Bill Murray in his groundbreaking performance as Steve Zissou in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. He’d be perfect in the prequel as a young “Stevsie” cutting his chops as an unpaid intern.  Get him a speedo and a glock!

GROUPER AND POLE SPEARS AND KIWIS, OH MY!

Once again Ryan has outdone himself. Look for lots of freediving action when Ryan and crew go grouper hunting in the NC.

Special interview with the intriguing Nicki Roderick, New Zeland record holder in unassisted freediving. Her record is 53 meters or 170+ feet deep. No SCUBA, no fins, no complaints!

Look for a cameo from photog legend DJ Struntz. As always the out-takes are classic.

William Trubridge Freediving the Arch

Friday, November 14th, 2008 by MC

This is the first no fins, no suit freedive through the Arch, a 30m long tunnel connecting Dahab’s Blue Hole to the Red Sea. Depth is 55m.

This is a truly minimalistic approach to deep diving.

Bikini Breath Holder

Thursday, November 6th, 2008 by MC

3minutes 45 seconds is a solid hold. This is the same tank from the 4 minute video we featured a couple of months ago. I don’t know what’s going on, but whoever owns this tank must be good freediving coach or a sadist, or both.

Check out the contractions at the end. Just watching them makes me uncomfortable.

See if you can get 2 minutes above the water. Good luck.

In Sea TV Episode 5

Thursday, October 30th, 2008 by MC

Best episode yet from Ryan and his crew at In-Sea TV. We get some freediving warm up instruction from Ashley Futral, a member of the USA Freediving team. A stoned amberjack courtesey of Ren Chapman and a some cool Dolphin footage to boot.

Maybe next time the fish will cooperate. If you got em every time, they’d call it CATCHING not fishing.

Cheers.

InSea TV; New Episode

Another episode from our Southern Brethren at InSea TV.
It looks like these guys like to surf, dive and fish as much as we do.
Great episode.
