This video of last years Battle Of the Banks reeks of fall on the East Coast. Brown water, hard offshore winds and pumping surf make the Autumn a special time in these parts.
Dig it.
I know I do. I also know things like kids, bills, jobs and other ubiquitous bummers have a tendency to push very, very fun things like surf trips way back in line as far as priorities go. With all of that in mind, I give you a super condensed surf trip to the Mentawais to bridge the gap between the real and the imagined:
Nothern Africa in general has my attention.
Every time I look at the N Atlantic WAM, Morocco is getting pelted with swell, and videos like these have me frothing.

A renowned videographer, Newport Wedge aficionado and avid surf fisherman, Tom is constantly experimenting with various high def cameras that take lots of frames per second. The resultant images are amazingly clear and vivid.

The kickoff event of the ASP World Championship Tour 2009 season starts on February 28th, and will finish by March 11th. Set on Queensland’s idyllic Gold Coast at the fabled “Superbank“, the Quicksilver Pro Australia is always an awesome event and according to all the buzz on the world wide web, the contestants are fired up for a win. A win on the “Goldie” is a surefire way to start the year off right and has proven to give an edge to battlers in events far beyond the Australian Leg of the tour.
Will Slater start his campaign for title # 10 with a win? You can bet the Coolie kids will have something to say about that. Will Taj do an air? Will Josh Kerr invent a new maneuver? Will Taylor Knox surf on rail?!
One thing’s for certain, the drama will be high, the surfing will be the best ever seen, and the waves will be pumping. Look for goofy footers to do their best Occy imitations and for all the regs to punt and carve with reckless abandon.
