This just in from Almighty Ink. (The names of the spots have been changed to protect the locals)

Mike Kyrlo 38

And the e-mail read:

“Hey Mike, this is one of my spearfishing buddies (and tattoo clients), Mike Kyrlo….hes definitely devoted his life to the sea…he surfs, freedives/spearfishes, and fishes rod and reel…he gave me my 1st box of swimmers and plugs for fishing (before my spearfishing fascination)…

He got the big one on Monday….gave me this crazy story …he was ridin around on his bike lookin for bait workin, from (spot X) to (spot XXX) when he got a call the big bass were hittin at (secret spot)…he floored it on his bike over there, only to see all the fisherman walkin off the beach sayin that he had missed it…he figured that the bass had to be headin north up to (shangrila), so off he went …upon arriving, all the jetties had about 6 fisherman castin off, but 1 jetty was empty…he climbed out on it and started castin, lookin like there wasn’t anything happening, when he saw bait about 150 yards off the tip of his jetty…”with all his might..”, (his words!), he casted as far as he could w/a snag, and just hit the edge of the bait….he felt the reel pullin, so he new he had hit the bunker…then I guess the reel started peelin and 15 minutes later after an incredible fight, two Mexican dudes had to help him carry it off the jetty and up the beach..

awesome story….

i think I’m gonna pick up some new bands before Sunday…I don’t wanna lose the big one, either.”

“38.1 pounds, 46 inches, and one hell of a fight!”

Cheers to you Mike. Nice catch, especially from a rock pile.

Sharpen those hooks and tighten up those crimps Squids cause the cows are here, and you may not get a second chance at the big one.

SD on a 5′2″

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 by MC

Although Shane-O’s ripping, it looks a bit sketchy.
All the same, just to keep up with the “Slaters”, I just ordered a 3′5″ x 28″ x 2″, 6 fin, Koala tail. It’s bright blue epoxy with kevlar mud flaps and the license plate reads “ScorzoSrf”.
Pretty soon, my surfboard will be smaller than Ty’s body board…go figure.
